We’re just weeks away from Google’s I/O developers conference, and if you were worried there wouldn’t be anything to get excited about, think again: Android M will be unveiled for the very first time.
Granted, that’s not terribly surprising, given the usual cycle of these things. Android 5.0 Lollipop – known as Android L prior to that – was first shown at last year’s I/O conference, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was shown back at 2012’s conference.
The news actually comes via the schedule of sessions, which initially included an event called “Android at Work.” That listing claimed that Android M “brings the power of Android to all kinds of workplaces.” However, that event has since been removed from the listing.
Certainly, workplace usage won’t be the only thing that Android M brings to the table, but enterprise looks to be a strong focus for Google. We’ll surely see more consumer-leaning enhancements, as well: another session regarding “interruptions” potentially hints at further-improved notifications, reports The Verge.
Last year’s I/O keynote was a big one for Google, featuring the unveiling of Lollipop, the launch of Android Wear, and details on the likes of Android TV and Android Auto. What will this year’s bring? We’ve have to wait and see but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate a bit.
Otherwise, it’s time to start placing bets on which sweet treat will inspire the official name of the next major Android version. Marshmallow? Milkshake? Mars Bar? Now that’s what we really want to know.
