DStv, possibly spurred by recent releases onto the market like the Altech Node and local streaming video service VIDI, have announced that DStv Compact customers are getting access to the BoxOffice rental feature – something that was previously reserved for DStv Premium and Extra subscribers.
In order to access the BoxOffice service DStv Compact subscribers will need a subscription (thanks Captain Obvious), an HD PVR/DStv Explora and there’s a R75 monthly access fee involved. Once those conditions are met, Compact customers just need to SMS their smartcard number to 37569 to get everything rolling.
Once that’s all done, DStv is offering the first film rental, which normally costs R27 per film, to Compact users free of charge. As with everyone else who has access, films are available for 48 hours after rental.
DStv Digital Media CEO John Kotsaftis said “DStv is all about giving subscribers a ‘feel every moment’ experience and this is primarily done through the masses of content that is available through the HD PVRs and Exploras. 20 years ago who would have thought that we would be renting movies without stepping outside? Renting a movie has never been easier”
