First reported in March this year, Facebook has officially rolled out support for hashtags on the social network.
The Facebook Newsroom post announcing the introduction of the new feature says that Facebook’s hashtags will function similarly to those used by other services, like Twitter. There is one difference in that a user’s privacy settings will limit the accessibility of hashtag posts by the general public, reports The Verge.
Hashtags are not active for everyone yet and it may take a few weeks before the feature is in general use on Facebook.Facebook also has designs on other Twitter-like features attached to hashtags, such as trending topics and “deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world’s conversations.”
