Huawei is widely expected to reveal the next flagship in their stable (to mix a couple of metaphors) at MWC 2017, when they reveal the P10 to the world at large. The company is also expected to show off an updated Android Wear wristwatch in the shape of the Huawei Watch 2, details of which have leaked out online.
The company is set to stick with the P-branding for their main smartphones, with the P10 being the next in line to try and nab our attention. If the rumoured specs are correct, it’s definitely got a chance at that. A 5.5in 2,560 x 1,440 display, Kirin 960 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM (with 64GB of storage) or 6GB of RAM (128GB of storage), and a dual 12MP rear camera arrangement with Leica optics are just a few of the expected specs.
And if that doesn’t work on you, the rumoured price may lift your eyebrows a little. The Huawei P10 is thought to start, in Europe, at €749, which is an eye-watering R10,760 (without any of the local taxes and markup we’re oh-so-enthusiastic about). The P10 will be verging on Samsung and LG-level launch pricing at this rate. Only some hands-on time will tell whether they can justify the cost.
Huawei’s not going to be a one-trick pony at Mobile World 2017, though. The Huawei Watch 2 will supposedly make its first appearance at the event and it’ll be sporting Android Wear 2.0. The same Android Wear 2.0 that Google will be unveiling on 9 February. Huawei’s Watch 2 will, along with the new OS, reportedly feature a sportier look as well as a second version of the wristwear with a SIM card — so it’ll carry around its own data connection.
The Watch 2’s appearance at MWC 2017 isn’t a certainty, however. Sources say that it’s likely, but plans in that line are still subject to change. We’ll be watching closely to see just what Huawei has in store for the world next month.
