Microsoft has officially revealed Office 365 at an event in San Francisco. The newest version of its Office software has designs on the tablet market, with an emphasis on cloud services.
Office 365 was demonstrated on a Samsung tablet, showing how it is designed to work with touch interfaces. The new integrated Skydrive feature will allow users to work on the same document wherever they are, a first for Office.
Microsoft’s Kirk Koenigsbauer, who conducted the demonstration, also demoed Skype integration by using Outlook to start a Skype call. This feature has been available for some time but was confined to Microsoft’s Lync service. Skype has been newly-introduced as a feature of Office 365.
Microsoft’s latest toy was also shown to attendees. Perceptive Pixel is an 82″ multi-touch display that has a range of uses, including video conferencing with multiple people, though its eventual price tag may make accounting departments quake in their boots.
