Yup, you read us right. The Universal Foldable Keyboard that the ever-friendly Microsoft announced at MWC works with Windows, Android, and iOS devices.
It connects to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth, adding the ability for tactile typing to the device. The keyboard layout is familiar, and it even has two keys on the top left for you to switch between two devices simultaneously. So if you’re working on your iPad, and a message suddenly comes in on your Lumia, just tap the key to switch and type. No mess, no fuss.
A CLOSER LOOK
It folds pretty flat and stays securely shut thanks to its magnetic closure. It’s also slightly textured which means it won’t slip and slide on smooth surfaces, so don’t worry about setting it atop a glass table. Typing on it feels even better than the Surface Pro Type Cover for the Surface Pro 3, with the keys decompressing satisfyingly with every finger press.
Our favourite bit is that the battery life is supposed to last you three months, and once that runs out, all you’ve got to do is charge it up with a microUSB cable.
The only thing is it doesn’t come with a dock – like the Microsoft Universal Keyboard does – to hold your device upright, but we’re sure you can find something to prop said device up against. Also, that gap down the middle takes a little getting used to, but once you do, you’ll be replying to 20 emails per minute.
Calm your fingers, the Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard will be only be out in July and costs $100 (R1,180). But all good things are worth waiting for, right?
