BlackBerry maker RIM (Research in Motion) is “limiting summer vacations and ordering six-day work weeks for many of its Ottawa staff” in a bid to get BlackBerry 10 finished, according to a report from the Ottowa Citizen.

The recent delay of BlackBerry 10 to 2013, along with a poor showing in the company’s quarterly results, has led many to speculate that RIM will find itself out of the market in the very near future but the increased hours being put in on the new OS might account for CEO Thorsten Heins’ optimism regarding the company.

A RIM spokeswoman said in a statement, “The successful launch of the BlackBerry 10 platform, and the delivery of high quality, full-featured BlackBerry 10 smartphones, remains the company’s No. 1 priority; and we’re incredibly proud of the commitment shown by all RIM employees as we work toward this goal.”

BlackBerry developers are among those who are not too happy about the delay however. A developer, identified as Frank George, posted on RIM vice-president of developer relations Alex Saunders’ blog saying “How could you and RIM have told us developers for the last few months how close things were, to have got us this excited and then to wait for a quarterly earnings call to bitterly disappoint the only community that will, in the end, make BB10 sing?”
