Final Fantasy XV has been a long time in coming, with more than a decade having passed since it was first announced. Strangely, it was never saddled with the vapourware title that Duke Nukem Forever and The Last Guardian (which finally launches this December) got for similar development cycles. But now that the newest Final Fantasy is here, Sony are doing the celebration thing with some branded kit. Like this special Walkman.
Sony and Square Enix are teaming up to offer Final Fantasy fans the Walkman A-Series Final Fantasy XV Edition, which will run prospective buyers (in Japan only) about R4,200 once the exchange rate has been converted. That’s for a 16GB high-res-supporting Walkman in the new role-playing game’s colours. There are also some very old-school sprites adorning the rear. These should catch the eye of long-time fans in no uncertain way. Other than that… the Walkman A-Series seems pretty standard.
Those who are splurging on the limited edition audio hardware will also have the option to grab a set of similarly-branded Sony hear.on MDR-100A headphones (R3,050) or a hear.go SRS-HG1 Bluetooth speaker (R3,600). You know, to complete the party.
The massive downside to all this branded gear is that you’re not going to be able to purchase it anywhere outside of Japan for the foreseeable future. So you’ll just have to make do with hours and hours of Final Fantasy XV today, like the rest of us. Unless you live in Japan, in which case we dislike you. Just a little.
