YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley revealed at Le Web 2012 in London that the new service – called Zeen – from AVOS, the company owned by Hurley and fellow YouTube co-founder Steve Chen, will be launched next week.
Almost nothing is known about Zeen, save for what is available on the front page of the website. Users will be able to “Discover and create beautiful magazines” apparently, so something along the lines of digital publishing seems the most likely scenario.
Potential users are only able to reserve usernames at the moment but whatever they are being reserved for will only be clear some time next week. Given the duo’s success with YouTube, their Zeen venture could be yet another nail in the coffin of dead tree publications.
